Catch Me If You Can

Last year I used a project to practice editorial illustration. I would use the rule of '3rd page, 4th Column, Any Newspaper' and respond to whatever story may be on that page that day.
I had a good response from the project and was advised to send the work to The Guardian. The response I had from them was also good but they made a point about my use of pencil and that pencil doesn't print well. So I have decided to take this project on once more in my spare time using the same rules as last time but with a different approach to the drawing.

Class of 84'
So 3rd year begins! This summer I responded to the word 'undertaking' as part of our summer project. I decided that there were a few things I needed to work on - Familiar Characters, Type, and using a Graphics Tablet. So I labelled the work as - 'Undertaking the learning of new ideas and processes'. The work is just a practice exercise really, but is based on my favourite year for popular culture - 1984.

Big.

So I'm still working on this character development stuff, I've been spending a lot of time on a big drawing, working on the Wacom tablet. Though I felt the full force of not having hard copies of things yesterday when I forgot to save an entire days work! I've been enjoying this practice but looking forward to using a paper and pencil again!

Best of All

Just got back from Bestival... What a hot dinger of a weekend. I found out a week or so before the festival weekend that the one and only Mr. Motivator would be doing a 45 minute set on the Saturday so I put together a costume to honor the great man himself...

Big Phil C

This started out as a doodle and then I photoshopped the fuck out of it. I've been listening to a lot of Phil Collins recently and fancied doing a drawing, couldn't help but come across 'that' Cadbury advert. Wish they'd stop trying to better that one, with the weird kids, airport vehicles and CGI fish. It's laaammmme.

Goodfellas

I recently had a 2 week long obsession with the movie Goodfellas, which ranks at number 2 in my favourite movies of all time. I wanted to something about the movie for ages and in the end settled on this stupid pun/play on words thing. I'm trying to convert the style I use for my characters into recognisable celebrities and this is my first attempt.

Holiday Memories

So i've been doing zero to do with Illustration for the last month... I just got back from Holiday in Egypt on Sunday and i'm ready to get started again. Here is a pretty accurate representation of my lovely if somewhat uncomfortable holiday that I sketched waiting for the plane home. I'll be posting a few things I've been working on over the summer in the next few days.

Summer Updates
Finally that time of year again! mmmm....I haven't posted anything up for quite a while, i've been chillin out since then end of the Mural Project/Assessment. Just thought I'd post a few updates...
Roger Daltery opened the Brighton Music Tunnel at the end of last month and the feedback we've had so far has been pretty good. The opening was covered by BBC and ITV which was pwetty sweet.
If you get a chance go down to the Sealife Centre in Brighton and have a look and let us know what you think!
Then after we managed to take a couple of breaths we were given a brief for our end of year show 'Light' here is a short animation I made with the little time I had. The exhibition looked really great, hats off to Luke Tudor Griffiths & Mark Adams for setting it up!

Sea Life Centre Mural Presentation
On Thursday afternoon a group of us got together and delivered a presentation in front of a team of documentary film makers to the directors of the Sealife Centre, the producer at Juice FM, and the director of the Brighton 'Walk of Fame'.

The Presentation was a pitch to paint a mural in the tunnel that runs from the Brighton Sealife Centre to the Sea Front. To celebrate the history of the Brighton Music Scene and honor artists who tie links with the city of Brighton.
The Presentation went down well and the clients seemed to be very excited by our initial ideas. The projects starts at the beginning of the summer term (April 19th) and we have a month to work on the mural. The project will coincide with the Brighton Fringe Festival where there will be a grand opening on May 20th. As well as Documentary film being made on the project by students from Hasting College and a Publicity campaign is being run by Juice FM
Exciting times lay ahead...
